A very simple, but at the same time very tasty and quite hearty dish is beef stroganoff with cream. The classic combination of meat, mushrooms and cream is a great idea for lunch or dinner.
Peel and cut 1-2 onions into half rings. Heat 4-6 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add onions and fry 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
While onions cook, wash 250 grams of mushrooms, pat dry, and slice thinly.
Add mushrooms to the pan and fry over medium heat 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until liquid evaporates and they're light brown.
While mushrooms cook, wash 700 grams of beef, pat dry, and cut into thin strips.
Increase heat to medium-high. Add beef and fry 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown on all sides.
Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of flour over the meat and vegetables and stir thoroughly for 1 minute to coat everything.
Rinse 2-3 bay leaves and add to the pan. Stir well.
Reduce heat to low. Pour 300 milliliters of cream into the pan and stir gently to combine.
Add a pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
Cover with a lid and simmer over low heat 15-20 minutes until beef is tender.
Remove from heat and let stand covered 10-15 minutes. Serve with a side dish, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
