Heat oil in a large pan. Fry the onions until translucent while stirring. Add the bay leaves, turmeric, chilli powder, cardamom, cumin, coriander, ginger, garlic, cinnamon stick and lemongrass. Fry for about 1 minute, stirring, until they are fragrant. Stir in the chicken pieces until the mixture is coated. Stir in the broth and cook the chicken tenderly in 45 minutes to 1 hour.
