Wash apples and pears, peel (if desired), quarter, core and cut into thin slices. Wash, sort and drain the cranberries.
Melt some butter in a saucepan, add honey and fruits and sauté for about 1 minute over low heat. Pour in port wine and bring to the boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer over a low heat for about 5 minutes.
Serve the compote either warm or cold.
Tastes delicious with vanilla ice cream, rice pudding, pancakes or just plain.
