Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them roughly into pieces. Then cover and cook in boiling salted water for 20-25 minutes. Then drain and let steam briefly in an open saucepan over a mild heat.
In another saucepan, briefly bring the milk, butter, a little salt and the spices to the boil. Finely mash the sweet potatoes in a pot with a potato press or - even better - with a potato masher. Stir in the still hot milk mixture with a whisk until you have a fluffy, creamy mashed potato.
