Wash the gooseberries, drain them well, remove the stalks.
Mix the other ingredients in a bowl to make a very liquid batter. Grease a baking dish with the butter, pour in the batter and then place the gooseberries on top.
Bake the clafoutis for about 40 minutes, make a stick test. If you want, you can sprinkle some sugar on the cake towards the end of the baking time and let it caramelize.
