Soak the white bread in water for 2 minutes until softened, then squeeze out excess water.
Chop the onions and potatoes. Pass them through a meat grinder along with the garlic and soaked bread. Add the ground mixture to the minced meat.
Add the egg, salt, and ground pepper. Mix thoroughly for 2-3 minutes until well combined. Form into cutlet patties of uniform size.
Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the cutlets in a single layer. Fry for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
