Instructions

  1. Heat the Guinnesss, butter, chocolate and sugar in a coated saucepan or in a double boiler over low heat until the chocolate has melted. Let cool (but not so much that the chocolate hardens).
  2. Preheat the oven to 180 C.
  3. Mix the eggs and sour cream into the chocolate mixture. Mix the flour and baking soda and fold into the dough. Mix well so that no lumps form.
  4. Grease 2 round cake tins and dust with flour. Pour half of the batter into each of the cake tins. Bake in the preheated oven for approx. 35 - 50 minutes (depending on the size of the cake pan, please do a chopstick test, I bake with convection with 26 springform pans and the cake takes approx. 40 min.)
  5. Let the cake cool down.
  6. For the glaze, melt the butter, chocolate and Guinness in a water bath and allow to cool. Mix the cream cheese, vanilla flavor and cocoa together in a large bowl. Mix in a fifth of the powdered sugar, then the chocolate mixture. Slowly stir in enough powdered sugar until the desired thickness is achieved.
  7. Brush one of the cakes with a little glaze and place the second cake on top (i.e. stick it).
  8. Cover the whole cake with chocolate icing and decorate to taste if desired.
  9. This is the right thing for real chocolate alcoholics! The cake is very juicy and substantial, but hhhmmmmm .. pure sin is allowed every now and then, right?
