Peel the kohlrabi and potatoes and cut into thin slices. Peel and halve the garlic clove, finely chop one half. Rub an ovenproof dish with half a clove of garlic, then grease the dish with butter.
Preheat the oven to 180 °.
Whisk the eggs with the cream and cheese in a bowl, mix in the chopped garlic. Season the mixture with salt, pepper and nutmeg and pour over the vegetables. Cook in a hot oven (center, fan oven 160 °) for about 40 minutes.
If the surface of the gratin turns brown, cover with aluminum foil.
