Peel and chop the apple and onion. Fry the bacon with a little frying oil.
Open the can of sauerkraut (I use wine sauerkraut) and squeeze the juice out of the can into a glass (approx. 250 ml). Those who like it sour don`t express that much.
Put the canned sauerkraut, bacon, a spoonful of lard, the chopped apple and the onion in a saucepan. Season with pepper and soup spices and stir. Add water (I pre-boil it in the kettle) so that the contents of the pot are covered with water. Bring to a boil and continue to simmer on medium strength. Stir occasionally and, if necessary, add water to prevent it from burning. The dish is ready after approx. 40 - 60 minutes. Try it, the sauerkraut has to be soft, then it`s ready.
