- Slice the bread crossways on a large slicer or carefully with a sharp bread knife. Leave out the top slice and eat it as a sandwich.
- Brush the other slices with butter or tartar sauce and top each with tomato, onion, cucumber and cheese. Save a few onion rings for decoration.
- Put the bread together and press the meat in portions all around. Decorate the Metttorte with salami, onion rings, radishes and herbs as desired.
