Roughly grate the potatoes and roughly chop the onion. Mix the potatoes, flour, eggs, onion, bacon and cheese well in a bowl, season with salt and pepper and squeeze in the garlic. Stir everything well again.
Heat the oil in a pan, add 2 to 4 heaped tablespoons of the mixture (depending on the desired buffer size) into the pan, flatten and fry on both sides for approx. 3 minutes over medium heat until golden.
