Dissolve the yeast in the cup of lukewarm water with sugar.
Sift the flour into a baking bowl. Pour dissolved yeast into a well and process with the flour. Gradually knead in the milk, butter, sugar, salt and raisins. Dust with a little flour and cover and let rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes.
When the dough has doubled, knead briefly and place in a greased loaf tin and cut lengthways. Let rest for another 10-15 minutes. Smear with a little milk and put in the preheated oven - add the bottom rail and half a cup of water. Bake for about 30-40 minutes. After pulling out, smear again with milk.
