Peel the onions and cut into rings. Pat the meat dry and cut into fine strips.
Heat the fat in a large frying pan or in a wok, add the onion rings and fry well over high heat while stirring and turning. Add the meat and stir-fry, stirring and turning. Pour in the water and bring everything to a boil. Add the granulated broth, ketchup and Tabasco and stir everything well. Let the liquid boil down vigorously, stirring again and again.
