Instructions

  1. Today we`re doing something Asian again, because today we`re making delicious Teriyaki meatballs and a heavenly Teriyaki sauce. I have to admit, I was very skeptical when I saw the recipe because I just couldn`t imagine it. Why it is like that? Because I have a problem with the very salty soy sauce on its own. Of course there will be a contrast with the sugar - sweet / salty! You know, one of the typical Asian components. Then the meatballs, I have to admit that I`ve never made any in the oven, they have become a dream, did you see the golden brown color in the video? I`ll tell you a dream. I will now only make them in the oven, so juicy, tender and evenly cooked. Oh yes, please use an oiled roaster, as a lot of liquid leaks out of the mince and it has completely soiled your baking sheet and in my case the permanent baking mat on both sides.
  2. 1. Put the minced meat with the breadcrumbs and egg yolks in a bowl. Then cut the spring onion horizontally several times and then cut finely.
  3. 2. Chop the garlic clove very finely or grate it finely with a grater and add to the minced mixture with the spring onions. Grate the ginger as well and add about half a teaspoon. Season with pepper and soy sauce.
  4. 3. Now mix everything together and shape into walnut-sized meatballs. Place the meatballs directly in an oiled roaster and bake at 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  5. 4. Now mix the cold water with the cornstarch in a small bowl. Put the soy sauce with the sugar, honey and water in a saucepan and add the other half of the grated ginger and the garlic.
  6. 5. Bring the sauce to a boil and then simmer gently for about 10 minutes. Then stir in the mixed cornstarch and let everything sit on the stove. After 3 - 4 minutes the sauce should become thicker.
  7. 6. The meatballs should be ready by now. Then add these to the sauce and stir until they are all evenly coated with the sauce. Serve with rice.
