Bruschetta with Tomato and Basil

by Editorial Staff

Sandwiches are made all over the world, and Italy is no exception. A wonderful, unusually tasty, and delicate Italian sandwich – bruschetta, the essence of which is a slice of white bread, grilled and seasoned with garlic and olive oil, with some kind of topping filling. It can be a combination of vegetables with herbs, but other options with traditional Italian ingredients – mozzarella, Parma ham, and so on – are quite possible.

Ingredients

  • Ciabatta bread 2 slices
  • tomato 1 pc.
  • green basil 5-6 leaves
  • 1 clove garlic
  • olive oil 20 ml (2 tbsp)
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Directions

  1. First, let’s prepare the filling. Cut the basil and tomato into small cubes. We put them in a bowl.
  2. Pour 10 ml (or about 1 tablespoon) of olive oil into a bowl, salt, pepper, and stir.
  3. Now we are preparing the bread. Cut off 2 slices from the bread. If a baguette is used, then I recommend cutting it not across, but at a fairly large angle. This will increase the area of the bruschetta, it will be more convenient to toast bread and layout the filling.
  4. Grease the slices of bread with olive oil. This makes the crust appear much faster, and the inside of the bread will be tender and soft. Grilling slices of bread are recommended. This is certainly a very correct recommendation, but more often than not, it is not feasible. At home, it is convenient to fry the slices in a hot skillet. I use a grill pan so the bread will have very nice brown stripes. Fry slices of bread until browning begins.
  5. As soon as the slices of bread are fried, immediately rub them with a peeled clove of garlic. As a rule, I rub on both sides, I love garlic, it seems to charge food with positive energy.
  6. Gently spread the filling on the bread slices, decorate with a leaf of green basil, and serve immediately. Bruschetta with tomatoes and basil is ready! As you can imagine, bruschetta cooks quickly and should be eaten immediately, just as quickly. Don’t be put off. Alternatively, you can prepare the baked bread in advance, and spread the filling before eating.

Bon Appetit!
