Ingredients

  • 4 large carrot (s)
  • 2 large onions
  • 1 can beans, baked, in tomato sauce
  • 1 can tomato (s), chopped
  • Curry powder
  • Paprika powder
  • salt and pepper
  • some olive oil
  • 0.5 ½ bell pepper (s), green, for some color

Instructions

  1. Cut the onions and cook them slowly in a large pan with a little olive oil, do not fry them. Add 1 teaspoon of curry powder, more if necessary. Let the onions continue to cook.
  2. Peel and roughly grate the carrots and add to the onions. Cut the green pepper into small pieces and add. The mixture should cook for about 15 minutes, until the grated carrots are also soft. Then add the beans and stir everything carefully. Add the canned tomatoes and cook well for 5 minutes. Then turn the heat down to the lowest level. Add salt, pepper and paprika seasoning to taste.
  3. The chakalaka should now have enough time to simmer on the lowest level. As a rule, the typically sharp taste is well absorbed after 1-1 / 2 hours and the South African vegetable relish is ready.
  4. Chakalaka is a good accompaniment to Milie Pap or is often used with a braai (barbecue).
