Ingredients

  • 500 g flour (white flour)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 20 g yeast
  • little sugar
  • 250 g milk, lukewarm
  • 50 g butter or mararine
  • 2 egg (s)

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour with the salt. Dissolve the yeast in a little of the lukewarm milk and very little sugar. Dissolve the margarine in the rest of the milk. Open an egg and mix well with a fork. Mix together the dissolved yeast and the butter or margarine that has melted in the milk and the egg.
  2. Stir the mixture into the flour in small amounts. Mix well again and again and then knead the dough well by hand until it bubbles.
  3. Cover and stand in the warmth and let rise.
  4. Then form a large or two small braids out of the dough. In the meantime, preheat the oven on high. While heating up, let the braid rest again and brush with part of an egg yolk (or the whole, mixed egg) before putting it in the oven.
  5. Bake in the oven at approx. 200 ° C until the braid has a nice brown color. Leave the oven closed for the first 20 minutes. After baking, let cool on a rack.
  6. Since the braid is not sweet, it tastes wonderful with both sweet and salty!
