Facts About Durian

Because we are talking about durian. The fruit is a plant from the mallow family, which grows exclusively in the tropics of Southeast Asia and categorically does not tolerate transportation and freezing. Therefore, they prefer to eat it right on the spot, which, however, is fraught with some difficulties.

  1. For starters, thorns. Imagine a huge chestnut - something like this, only even more studded with rather sharp thorns, durian looks. However, its skin is relatively thin, so only a penknife and a sturdy protective glove are needed for cutting.
  2. The taste of the fruit is quite specific - sweet and sour, which is somewhat reminiscent of a viscous soufflé. It is better not to subject durian to heat treatment, as this only spoils it.
  3. But the worst thing is the smell. No associations with anything edible. Some people compare it to old socks standing alone (this is important) in the corner. Someone - with the aroma of a vegetable warehouse, where a year ago they forgot a ton of onions. Others, less poetically gifted, simply describe it as an incredible stench. Persistent, pervasive, and sickening. Therefore, in most cultural institutions, you cannot even carry durians, not what you have.
  4. However, due to the great love of residents for this unusual fruit, special, almost hermetically sealed bars have appeared, where durian can be consumed calmly. You pay for the entrance - and eat until you get bored.
  5. It has no cholesterol at all, with an extremely high-fat content for a plant.
  6. It contains the essential amino acid tryptophan, which can only be found in some animal products.
  7. It is rich in copper, iron, and manganese, which makes it extremely useful for people who have problems with hematopoiesis.
  8. It is rich in simple sugars and fructose, vitamin C, and other vitamins, which is why it is often given to weakened children with a lack of body weight.
  9. Durian, called a "hot" fruit, increases the temperature in the stomach when consumed and, according to locals, you will not need a blanket while sleeping.
  10. Durian cannot be combined with alcoholic beverages: this can cause severe poisoning with subsequent complications. It is also not recommended for women during pregnancy and lactation. Durian is also contraindicated in case of individual intolerance to the body.
  11. Its taste is reminiscent of sweet almond cream with the addition of cream cheese, onion gravy, cherry syrup, and other difficult foods.
  12. In Thailand, during the ripening period of durian fruits (from May to August), even special festivals are held, which attract many people from all over the world. Exotic fruit leaves few people indifferent. Those who have tried it are divided into two camps - passionate fans and haters.
