American Donuts

Here are classic donuts like in the USA. The recipe was spied on in one of the cooking shows. In America, they are eaten in tons. Yes, high in calories, yes, sweet, but sometimes you can!

Ingredients

  • 450 ml warm milk
  • 3 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoon sugar
  • 60 g soft butter
  • 3 yolks
  • 1/4 glass of brandy, whiskey, rum (you don’t need to add if you are against alcohol)
  • 1 bag of vanilla sugar
  • 800 g flour
    For glaze:
  • 250 g icing sugar
  • 30-50 ml of milk

Directions

  1. I don’t really like to mess with yeast dough. Knead the dough, etc. – it’s not mine. So I have an assistant – a bread maker, she will do everything – and knead, and raise, I just roll it out.
  2. So, the yeast dough is ready.
  3.  Roll out the dough on a board into a layer 3 mm thick and cut out the circles with a glass.
  4. In each circle, make another one using a plastic water bottle cap.
  5.  Place the resulting bagels on the proving board (raising the dough) for 1 hour. If you have risen earlier, do not hesitate, start frying.
  6.  Yes, fry American donuts in oil (like fries). We do not regret oil, pour 1 liter into a thick-walled saucepan (cauldron, duck, etc.). We warm up the oil, check it with a piece of dough – if it grabs and hisses right away, then here’s the go-ahead for frying.
  7. Gently dip the donuts (don’t remember the dough) in the butter and fry until a beautiful golden color. If it gets dark too quickly, turn down the heat. Flip them in oil to fry on both sides. Place on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8.  Donuts are cooling, and in the meantime, prepare the icing. Take powdered sugar and milk. Add milk literally drop by drop and stir well. Once it’s thin enough, dip the top donuts in the icing and layout to freeze. The glaze freezes instantly, well, literally in 1 minute.
  9. Spread donuts on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  10. While the donuts are cooling, you prepare the icing.
  11. Add milk to the icing sugar drop by drop and stir well.
  12. Dip the top of the donuts (on one side) in the icing and lay to set.
  13. Sprinkle with some powder if desired.
