Ingredients

  • 500 g minced meat (beef)
  • 1 slice / n toast bread
  • 0.5 ½ cup milk
  • 1 large onion (s), finely chopped
  • 1 clove (s) garlic, finely chopped
  • 0.5 tablespoon ½ ginger, grated
  • Butter for frying
  • 2 egg (s)
  • 1 lemon (s), add the juice from it
  • 0.5 tablespoon ½ salt
  • 100 g sultanas
  • 100 g almond (s)
  • 100 g mano chutney
  • 1 tablespoon African style spice mix
  • 2 tablespoon curry powder
  • some bay leaves, fresh or dried

Instructions

  1. Soak the toast slice in half the milk. Express and collect the milk. Crumble the toast and mix with the minced meat and curry powder. Fry the onion, garlic and ginger in butter and spices in a pan until golden brown. Add the minced meat and stew until brown. Remove from the heat and mix with the fried onions, sultanas, 1 egg, lemon juice, salt, the remaining half of the milk, almonds and chutney. Mix everything well and place in a baking dish. Mix the other egg with the rest of the milk. Pour over the meat. Press the bay leaves vertically into the bobotie and then season with a little curry powder.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven at 180 ° C for about 30 minutes.
  3. Serve with rice and cooked vegetables.
