Ceviche (Classic South American Dish)

by Editorial Staff

Ceviche is a wonderful light dish that can accompany other dishes or be completely independent. It is extremely popular in South America and, I must say, deservedly so.

Ingredients

  • 300 gr fillet of white fish (halibut, grass carp, sea bass, or others at your discretion)
  • A handful of chopped parsley leaves
  • 1/2 sweet onion (half rings)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or salt to taste)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • Chilli
  • 2 tablespoons grapeseed oil (can be substituted for olive oil)
  • Lettuce leaves, for serving (optional)

Directions

  1. First, you need to prepare the marinade. To do this, squeeze the juice from one orange and one lemon, remove the zest from the lemon, grind and add to the juice, add soy sauce, grape seed oil, chili, chopped parsley, and onions. Mix everything thoroughly. We taste it. This is fundamentally important. The marinade should not be too sour otherwise the ceviche will be sour. If, however, the orange was not sweet enough, add a little sugar to make the marinade moderately sour. (Damn, don’t do that, I was joking! Just juice. And optional soy sauce or a little salt, but no sugar)
  2. Now we cut the fish fillet into small pieces of a convenient shape. But keep in mind, they shouldn’t be too thin. For me, the ideal size is 2 by 2 slices and half a centimeter thick. We check that there are no bones left in the fillet because it’s not very good, you know, it’s nice when you come across bones in the fish.
  3. Add fish to the marinade and leave in a cool place for at least thirty minutes. It’s easy to check if ceviche is ready – just try a piece of fish If it’s soaked in the marinade, the ceviche is ready to serve.
  4. Put it in plates, bowls, or lettuce leaves (my favorite way) and serve immediately! The main thing is not to forget to generously pour the marinade
  5. Feel free to experiment with the ceviche recipe. Try using lime juice, or using good shrimp (pre-boiled) instead of or with fish (it’s just a bomb). Or use several types of fish. In general, try and do not forget to share the recipe on social networks.

Enjoy your meal!
