Chakhokhbili (Georgian Dish)

This chakhokhbili recipe is a variation on a popular Georgian dish, replacing tomatoes with tomato sauce. We will cook chakhokhbili from chicken thighs in a frying pan.Cook: 1 hour 20 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs – 800 g
  • Carrots – 1 pc.
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc.
  • Tomato ketchup (or tomato sauce) – 2 tbsp
  • Mayonnaise (any) – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric – 2 pinches
  • Spices (optional) – to taste
  • Ground pepper – 1 pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Vegetable oil – 50 ml
  • Greens (optional) – to taste

Directions

  1. The chicken thighs were defrosted beforehand. We examine them, rinse and dry them using a paper towel or ordinary napkins.
  2. Transfer the thighs of the bird to a bowl, season with pepper, salt, and turmeric (or spices to taste). We mix.
  3. Peel and cut the onion (half rings). Peel and grate the carrots.
  4. Pour oil into a frying pan, heat over medium heat. We spread the chopped vegetables, saute until soft, stirring occasionally.
  5. We shift the chicken thighs to sautéed vegetables.
  6. Fry the thighs for seven minutes on each side.
  7. Cooking the sauce. To do this, mix tomato ketchup (or tomato sauce), mayonnaise and water (a little, depending on the size of the pan). Pour chicken thighs (about half) with cooked tomato sauce.
  8. Cover the pan with a lid and simmer the thighs, turning over a couple of times. Time – 30-40 minutes, fire – low.
  9. Chakhokhbili from chicken thighs is ready. Sprinkle chopped fresh herbs over the dish if desired.
