At first glance, it seems that there really is an outlandish flower on the plate, but not the head of an ordinary onion. Yes, yes, this is a real onion, decorated in the form of a flower and deep-fried. This appetizer will be appreciated by lovers of onion rings in the batter!
Cook: 25 mins
Ingredients
Large onions – 1 pc. (300 g)
Flour – 60 g
Egg – 1 pc.
Milk – 100 ml
Salt – 2 pinches
Ground black pepper – 2 pinches
Dried garlic – 0.5 teaspoon
Dried basil – 0.3 teaspoon
Ground paprika – 0.5 teaspoon
Refined sunflower oil – 400 ml (for deep fat)
For the sauce:
Mayonnaise – 2 tbsp
Ketchup – 2 teaspoon
Ground paprika – 0.3 teaspoon
Dried garlic – 0.5 teaspoon
Salt – 1 pinch
Ground black pepper – 1 pinch
Directions
Peel the onion.
Then cut the edge of the onion from the bottom so that it becomes more stable, nothing more. This will be the bottom of the “flower”.
On the opposite side, cut off about 1/6 of the onion. This will be the top of the “chrysanthemum”.
Place the head of the onion with the more cut part facing up. Cut the onion into 16 petal segments without completely cutting the onion (this is very important!). Separate the petals carefully.
For ice cream, shake the egg, milk, and a pinch of salt in a bowl with a fork.
Put flour, salt, black pepper, dried garlic, ground paprika and dried basil in another bowl.
Stir dry ingredients mixture.
Transfer the onions to a bowl of flour.
Sprinkle the cut onion gently so that flour can access each onion petal and coat the outside of the onion. Shake off excess flour.
Now place the onion in the bowl of the lion. Spoon the egg mixture over the onion.
Transfer the onions to the flour bowl again, then repeat the previous step.
In parallel with preparing the onion, heat the sunflower oil in a deep container of a suitable size. The oil should be hot enough – small bubbles should come from the wooden sticks dipped in the oil.
Gently dip the onion into the hot oil, open side down. After a minute, turn the onion head over and continue deep-frying the onion for another 5-6 minutes, using wooden sticks to help: lift the onion, turn it and separate the petals from each other.
Transfer the fried onion to a paper towel or napkins to absorb excess oil.
Prepare the ingredients for the sauce. You can make your favorite sauce, or use a store-bought sauce.
Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, salt, black pepper, ground paprika and dried garlic.
Stir. The sauce for fried onions is ready.
Serve hot fried onions with sauce.
“Chrysanthemum” made from fried onions looks extraordinary and will surprise everyone with its original taste. As a beer snack – just perfect!
