Ingredients

  • 600 g wheat flour, type 550
  • 25 g yeast, fresh
  • 30 grams sugar
  • 60 ml water, lukewarm
  • 250 ml milk
  • 50 ml oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ salt
  • Flour, for the baking sheet
  • 20 g butter, melted
  • 40 ml milk, warm

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour into a bowl and make a well in the center. Crumble in the yeast, add the sugar and mix both with the lukewarm water. Cover the edge with the flour and leave to rise in a warm place until the surface shows cracks.
  2. Warm the milk slightly and add the oil and salt. Add the mixture to the pre-dough and stir everything into a smooth dough. Shape into a ball and let rise again until it is roughly double its size.
  3. Knead again and cut the dough in half. Form 2 balls on a floured surface and shape into flat loaves, each approx. 20 cm in diameter. Dust a baking sheet with flour, place the bread dough on it and brush with the melted butter. Cover again and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  4. Then brush the loaves of bread with lukewarm milk and lightly dust them with flour. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for about 50 minutes.
  5. This bread has a slightly sweet taste and a soft crust, but also goes well with savory dishes.
