Instructions

  1. This is the original recipe for making an Italo-Western bean pan. Please don`t ask me where I got it from. I won`t reveal it anyway! Anyone who knows Terence Hill and Bud Spencer films also knows the bean pan.
  2. Soak the beans for 12-24 hours before preparing. Then cook for about 40 minutes without salt (to avoid flatulence, you can cook the beans 10 minutes longer until they are floury-soft but not yet completely overcooked). Cut the bacon into bean-sized cubes. Roughly cut the onions and finely chop the garlic. Core the tomatoes and cut into cubes. If necessary, cut the peppers into small pieces.
  3. Fry the bacon, then add the onions and fry until brown. Roast the sugar briefly, then add the tomatoes and garlic, if necessary, add the peppers as well.
  4. Simmer for about 10 minutes and then add the salt, cocoa, oregano and cumin. Simmer in about 30 minutes until thick and cook. Finally add the beans, season everything well and preferably only eat the next day. Then it tastes best.
  5. Cowboys eat them right away, of course, because there is no time tomorrow and they are now (!) Hungry.
