Instructions

  1. Roughly chop the onion and mix with the minced meat and eggs. Season well with salt and pepper or minced meat seasoning. Then mix in the canned tomatoes with juice. The result is a somewhat liquid mass, which is then poured into a rectangular baking dish.
  2. Now the wheat flakes are mixed into the mass until it has a firmer consistency and is only slightly moist. However, you shouldn`t use too much of the flakes and you should definitely use unsweetened wheat flakes.
  3. I have the recipe from the USA, where I`ve always used the so-called Wheaties, which I haven`t been able to find in Germany so far. But there are alternatives from the relevant companies in Germany as well. Sweetened cornflakes are definitely not suitable here!
  4. Smooth the mass and place in the preheated oven at 180 degrees until the top crust is golden brown. The cooking time is about an hour.
  5. The meat casserole can be cut into rectangular pieces like a lasagna and served that way. As a side dish I recommend e.g., Potato gratin or mashed potatoes and possibly a light salad.
