Meatballs in Sweet and Sour Sauce Instructions

  1. Finely chop half an onion. Chop 1 carrot and 1 bell pepper. Set all aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine 400g ground beef, 2 eggs, 3-4 tbsp breadcrumbs, the chopped onion, a pinch of allspice, and a pinch of salt. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Form the mixture into balls roughly 3 cm in diameter. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 200°C (392°F) for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Drain the canned pineapple and reserve the juice. In a skillet over medium heat, combine the pineapple juice, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp sugar, and 0.5 tsp spices.
  5. Mix 2 tbsp cornstarch with a small amount of the water to make a smooth slurry. Add the slurry and 0.5 tsp ginger to the skillet. Stir constantly for 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and becomes aromatic.
  6. Add the chopped bell pepper, pineapple pieces, chopped carrot, and most of the remaining water to the sauce. Stir, cover, and simmer for 7-10 minutes on medium heat.
  7. Remove the meatballs from the oven and add them to the sauce. Stir gently, cover, and simmer for 10-12 minutes on medium heat.
  8. Serve hot.

Bon appetit!
