How to make hot mozzarella sandwiches:

Mozzarella Sandwiches Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 0.25 cup chopped onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add 1 minced garlic clove and cook for 1 minute. Stir in 780 g mashed canned tomatoes, 1 teaspoon grape jam, 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano, 0.5 teaspoon dried basil, 0.5 teaspoon salt, and 0.125 teaspoon ground black pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. While the sauce simmers, arrange mozzarella slices (about 1.5 cm thick) on 4 bread slices (about 2 cm thick). Top each with a remaining bread slice to form sandwiches. In a small bowl, whisk together 2 beaten eggs, 0.75 cup milk, 0.5 teaspoon salt, and 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the butter is foaming, place sandwiches in the pan and cook for 4-5 minutes over medium-low heat until the bottom is golden brown. Flip each sandwich and cook the other side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is fully melted. Repeat with the remaining 1 tablespoon butter and remaining sandwiches.

Enjoy your meal!
