Oven Baked Onions

by Editorial Staff

Lettuce onions are baked in the oven with balsamic vinegar until they are golden brown.

Ingredients

  • Salad onions – 4 pcs. (about 600 g)
  • Balsamic vinegar – 1/3 cup
  • Butter (melted) – 2 tbsp
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Dry white wine/chicken broth – 2 tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 tbsp
  • Ground black pepper – 1/8 teaspoon.
  • Fresh thyme (leaves only) (optional)

Directions

  1. Turn on the oven to preheat to 215 degrees. Pour olive and butter into a 3-liter ovenproof dish, grease the bottom and sides of the mold with this mixture. In a separate bowl, mix the vinegar, wine, sugar, salt, and pepper, pour into an oiled dish.
  2. Peel the onion, but do not cut off the ends. Cut the onions in half lengthwise, put the halves in the prepared form with the slices up, cover the form with foil, place in the oven for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove the foil, turn the bulbs to the other side, cut them down, and place them in the oven again, cook, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes.
  4. When serving, sprinkle with thyme.
