Plain Meatballs

I will offer delicious meatballs in tomato sauce for lunch. For minced meat, take pork and beef in equal parts, or you can use ready-made minced meat.

Plain Meatballs Ingredients

  • Meat or minced meat (pork and beef) – 700 g
  • Egg (optional) – 1 pc.
  • Bulb onions – 2 pcs.
  • Tomatoes – 4-5 pcs. or tomato paste – 2 tbsp.
  • Bay leaf – 1 pc.
  • Sugar- 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste.
  • Pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying – 30 ml
  • Water (boiling water) – 200-400 ml

  1. Cut the meat into pieces, mince. (You can use ready mixed minced meat.) Peel the onion, wash, chop finely. Salt and pepper the minced meat, add finely chopped onion. (If desired, add an egg to the minced meat.) Mix the minced meat for meatballs well and beat off.
  2. With wet hands, form meatballs the size of a walnut. Preheat a frying pan, pour in vegetable oil. Put meatballs in hot oil. Fry meatballs over high heat for about one minute on each side, until golden brown. Put meatballs in a cauldron.

  3. Put onion in hot oil in a frying pan. Fry over medium heat until transparent (about 2 minutes), stirring occasionally. Wash the tomatoes, cut in half, and grate. Add tomatoes (or tomato) to the onion. Simmer everything together for 3-4 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, add sugar, bay leaf and boiling water (200 ml). If you add tomato, then add 400 g of boiling water.

  4. Pour the meatballs in a cauldron with tomato sauce, put on fire, cover with a lid, simmer on minimum heat for 15-20 minutes.
  5. Plain meatballs are ready. Serve with your favorite side dish.
