If you are a lover of dumplings, then try this unusual recipe. Poppy dumplings with curd filling with the addition of orange peel are very fragrant, with an unobtrusive citrus note, and the dough is not only tasty but also elegant – speckled thanks to poppy seeds. A fascinating cooking process and eating this yummy too quickly are guaranteed!

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Flour – 480 g + for working with dough
  • Water – 200 ml
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Dry poppy – 2 tbsp
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt – 0.25 teaspoon

For filling:

  • Cottage cheese – 550 g
  • Yolk – 1 pc.
  • Powdered sugar – 2-3 tbsp
  • Orange zest – 2 teaspoon

Additionally (optional):

  • Butter – to taste
  • Sour cream – to taste
  • Condensed milk – to taste

Directions

  1. Add dry poppy seeds and salt to the sifted flour. Stir with a spoon until smooth.
  2. Make a recess in the center. Add egg and vegetable oil, mix with flour mass.
  3. Gradually pour room temperature water into the dough. After each addition of water, stir well with a spoon to keep the ingredients moist.
  4. Then continue kneading with your hands until you get a dense dough that does not stick to your hands. Sprinkle in flour if necessary. Cover the dough with a towel and leave for 15-20 minutes at room temperature.
  5. Until then, prepare the filling. Add 1 yolk, powdered sugar (to taste), and orange zest to the curd. Stir the filling until smooth.
  6. Pound the rested dough again. Divide into four pieces for easier handling. If necessary, dust the board with flour.
  7. Now work on each piece in turn. (While working with one, cover the rest with a towel to prevent the dough from chapping.) Roll out the dough into a thin layer 2-3 mm thick. In my case, the dia of the reservoir turned out to be 30 cm.
  8. Cut out dough circles with a mold or glass (I have a diameter of 9 cm).
  9. Put a portion of the curd filling (1.5-2 teaspoon) in the center of the circle. Hold the edges together to form a crescent moon of the dumpling. (I have such a device so that the dumpling will turn out with a beautiful side and the same size, so I used it.)
  10. It remains only to boil the dumplings. Dip the workpieces into boiling salted water. Stir and bring to a boil. Boil boiled water for 8-10 minutes until the dough is ready. Cooking time depends on the size of the pieces. (Semi-finished dumplings can be frozen and used as needed.)
  11. Poppy dumplings with curd filling and orange zest are ready. Place them on a plate and serve immediately with sour cream or melted butter. You can also serve them with condensed milk. Try it.

Enjoy your meal!
