If you have the time and desire to cook an original dish for dinner, then today’s recipe will definitely appeal to you. Pea and potato casserole with ham and onions is a hearty and nutritious dish, so no one will go hungry. Making this casserole is easy and simple, using simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • Dried peas – 250 g
  • Potatoes – 350 g
  • Ham – 150 g
  • Bulb onions – 2 pcs.
  • Butter – 30 g
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Hard cheese – 50 g
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

Directions

  1. Soak peas for 5-6 hours in plain water, then rinse and fill with clean water. Boil over low heat for 1-1.5 hours. It is better to fill the peas with water in a ratio of 1: 3 so that the water does not boil away during cooking.
  2. When the peas are mashed, lightly salt them and add a spoonful of butter for a softer, more delicate texture. Cool it down.
  3. Add the yolk to completely cooled or slightly warm pea puree. Mix well with a spoon.
  4. Cook the potatoes and mashed them. Add some butter and some salt to the mashed potatoes for flavor.
  5. Mix two types of puree – pea and potato. Beat the remaining egg white until stiff. Add the whipped protein into the puree and gently, slowly, mix.
  6. Cut the ham into strips and the onion into half rings. Fry the ham and onions in a piece of butter.
  7. Put half the mashed potatoes and peas in a baking dish, and spread the ham and onion filling on top. Cover the filling with the remaining puree.
  8. Sprinkle the potato-pea casserole with grated hard cheese so that it forms a crust during baking. Bake in the oven at 200 degrees.
  9. The pea-potato casserole with ham is an alternative to your usual lunch or dinner, so be sure to offer it to the whole family.

Bon Appetit!
