Potato Casserole with Boiled Meat

Meat with potatoes is always delicious. But this union becomes even more appetizing in the form of a ruddy and tender-tasting mashed potato casserole with chopped boiled beef and onions as a filling. Try it!

Ingredients

  • Potatoes – 600 g
  • Beef (pulp) – 400 g
  • Onions – 50 g
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Milk – 100-180 ml (how much will it take)
  • Butter – 20 g
  • Vegetable oil – 0.5 tbsp
  • Salt to taste

For decoration (optional):

  • Parsley – 2 sprigs

Directions

  1. Prepare ingredients according to the list. For convenience, the recipe indicates the pure weight of the products in refined form.
  2. Cut the meat in half. Place in a saucepan, cover with cold water so that it covers the meat by 1-2 cm. Bring the water to a boil, remove the foam, reduce heat, and cook the meat for 20 minutes.
  3. Then add the onions to the pan and cook the meat for another 40-55 minutes until tender. Pierce the meat with a fork to check the doneness. If the fork comes in easily, the meat is ready.
  4. Remove the meat and onions from the broth and grind with a meat grinder or blender. Season with salt to taste. If the meat is dry, add 1-3 tbsp of broth and mix well.
  5. Peel potatoes, cut into large cubes, and place in a saucepan. Pour cold water over potatoes, bring to a boil and cook for 15-20 minutes until tender. Then strain the potatoes and mash until smooth.
  6. Heat the milk. Pour the hot milk into the mashed potatoes in small portions, stirring the mashed potatoes and controlling the consistency. Add milk as needed. The mashed potatoes should be fluffier, but still thick enough for the casserole to hold its shape. Stir well again and let cool for 2-3 minutes.
  7. Stir in the egg. Season with salt to taste. Mix everything well again. Brush a baking dish with vegetable oil. Just in case, I line the form with baking paper and grease the paper with a thin layer of oil as well. I use the form of 25x11x7.5 cm.
  8. Place about half of the mashed potatoes on the bottom of the dish and spread in an even layer. Place the chopped beef and onions in the next layer. Melt the butter. Place the other half of the mashed potatoes on the meat layer, smooth, and brush with melted butter.
  9. Place the potato casserole in an oven preheated to 220 ° C and bake for 20 minutes until golden brown.
    Chill the casserole until warm before serving so that it holds its shape better when cut.
  10. The potato casserole with boiled meat is ready. Gently remove the casserole from the mold, sprinkle with a pinch of fresh herbs and serve.
