Instructions

  1. Peel the raw potatoes and grate with a grater. If you like, you can add other roastable vegetables, such as zucchini or carrots, to add color and flavor.
  2. After grating, add 1 tablespoon of salt and stir well. Let the mixture sit for a while so that it draws in water. Pour off the liquid and squeeze out the mixture in a cloth. Add egg, bacon and spices and enough flour to make a compact mixture.
  3. Preheat the waffle iron and brush with oil. Shape the mixture into balls and place them on the hot waffle iron. Bake at 2/3 of the possible heat supply until the thalers are golden yellow. This takes 6 to 8 minutes.
  4. Note:
  5. The recipe makes two Röstiters per person. It works best in a waffle iron for Belgian waffles, as the distance between the plates is greater here.
  6. The hash browns go well as a side dish, for example. B. with pork loin steaks or as a starter or main course with herb quark and salad.
  7. The recipe is vegetarian without cubes of bacon and vegan without eggs, so the mixture may not hold together as well.

The Boss Kitchen editorial staff oversees content review, fact-checking, and recipe verification across the site. Published articles pass through the editorial team before going live, ensuring ingredient lists, techniques, cooking times, and nutritional claims hold up in a home kitchen. The team coordinates contributions across the site writers, handles reader corrections, and maintains consistency in measurement conventions, safety guidance, and dietary labeling.
