Ingredients
Potatoes – 400 g
Milk – 250 ml
Ham or sausage – 150 g
Wheat flour – 250 g
Chicken egg – 1 pc.
Fresh yeast – 10 g
Garlic – 1 clove
Vegetable oil (optional) – for lubricating the mold
Remove the potato skins after washing the vegetables thoroughly. Then grate the tubers on a fine grater or chop in a meat grinder. Squeeze out the liquid (you can use a sieve or just by the hand). Cook half of the prepared potatoes in boiling milk for 5 minutes, then set aside and cool.
Combine the rest of the potatoes with the caraway seeds, marjoram, salt, chopped garlic, an egg, and finely diced ham or another smoked or cooked sausage. You can take more sausages since this is exactly the case when you cannot spoil the porridge with butter.
Crumble the fresh yeast into cooled milk with potatoes, mix. Be sure to wait until it cools down, otherwise, you will “kill” the yeast and the bread will not rise.
Mix the contents of both bowls together. Season the dough with salt. Add the sifted wheat flour a little at a time and knead the batter. It should be similar in consistency to pancake or pancake dough.
Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil and transfer the finished bread dough into it. If the mold is Teflon or silicone, you do not need to lubricate. Place in a warm place for 20-30 minutes for the yeast to start working.
Bake potato bread in an oven preheated to 170 degrees for 60-70 minutes. Readiness must be checked with a wooden stick. If the stick remains dry, you can remove the potato bread from the oven.
Be sure to cool it down, as hot baked goods are not very good for the stomach. Now enjoy the delicious and original potato bread with ham.
