South African Yellow Rice

For some, this recipe will be another way to cook rice. I myself like to cook rice in different ways – from risotto to pilaf and from white crumbly Indian to sticky Japanese. As a rule, all these technologies correspond to one or another independent rice dish and are much less often used to prepare a side dish.

Ingredients

  • 350 gr. basmati rice;
  • 50 gr. butter;
  • 1 teaspoon sugar;
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick;
  • 6 boxes of cardamom, chop the seeds a little;
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric;
  • 1 teaspoon salt;
  • 5 tablespoon raisins.

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients in a heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon. salt and 500 ml of water.
  3. Heat until the butter melts and the water starts to boil.
  4. Reduce heat, cover saucepan, and simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove the pan from the heat and let sit for another 5 minutes.
  6. Stir the rice gently with a fork and serve over the bobotie.
