Ingredients

  • 300 g nuts and kernels, mixed
  • 150 grams sugar
  • 4 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon salt, leveled
  • 0.5 teaspoon ½ cinnamon, ground
  • 1 pinch (s) cayenne pepper, or chili powder
  • 1 pinch clove powder
  • 1 pinch cardamom powder
  • 1 pinch ginger powder
  • some butter

Instructions

  1. This tasty and quickly prepared snack made from spiced caramel nuts is an excellent addition to any party and also for the upcoming Christmas season. It is also ideal as a culinary souvenir.
  2. 1. Line the work surface with parchment paper and this - e.g., with butter - grease.
  3. 2. Put the sugar in a pan, with a thick base if possible, to ensure better heat distribution, and distribute it evenly.
  4. 3. Add 4 tablespoons of water and melt the sugar over medium heat and allow the water to evaporate. Do not stir until the sugar slowly begins to turn brown. If the sugar clumps, a little more water can be added. Be careful, however, as the steam can cause burns.
  5. 4. Now stir in the nut-kernel mixture and the spices with a wooden spoon. Continue stirring until the sugar has turned golden brown and the nuts / kernels are completely coated.
  6. 5. Put these on the baking paper, distribute them, cool them down and let them set. Then go over it briefly with a rolling pin to loosen the nuts / kernels that have clumped together.
  7. 6. Eat right away or pack it up nicely as a souvenir. Have fun with the preparation - bon appetit!
