Ingredients

  • 300 g potato (s), cooked and peeled
  • 3 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 onion (s), finely chopped
  • 300 ml water or broth (as hot as possible)
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 50 ml vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes, let them cool down a little and then peel them.
  2. Heat the butter in a saucepan. Add the finely chopped onion and let it sweat. Pour in the water. Now add salt, pepper, mustard, vinegar and sugar and simmer for a few minutes over medium heat.
  3. Cut the potatoes into slices and add. Let everything simmer and steep for a while. Stir occasionally, but not too often. If necessary, leave it to stand and only bring it back to the boil later, which increases the taste.
  4. Serve warm.
  5. Danish meatballs (meatballs made from minced pork and with milk) or breaded fish (e.g. cod or plaice) go perfectly with this.
  6. I learned this dish from my Danish grandmother and it was always my favorite dish as a child.
  7. Variation: With more liquid and, for example, bacon, a tasty potato soup can be made.
