Ingredients

  • 1 kg white cabbage, outer leaves removed, quartered, stalk removed, sliced into fine strips
  • 1 tablespoon rapeseed oil
  • 60 g smoked bacon, fat, diced
  • 1 medium onion (s), diced
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 125 ml water
  • a bit salt
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water for the cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil, leave out the bacon and remove it. Braise the onion cubes in the bacon fat. Heat the cabbage and caraway seeds for a short time. Add the water and salt and cook covered over low heat for approx. 60 minutes. Older cabbage needs approx. 90 minutes. Then bind with the cornstarch mixed in the water and season with salt.
