Ingredients

  • 5 rolls, stale, or about 1/2 pack toast
  • 300 ml milk
  • 2 large egg (s)
  • 2 tablespoon, heaped flour
  • 5 tablespoon, heaped crumbs
  • 2 tablespoon, heaped sugar
  • Vegetable oil, or lard

To sprinkle:

  • Cinnamon powder
  • sugar
  • Compote, or stewed plums, or vanilla sauce

Instructions

  1. Dice the stale rolls and mix with the flour. Whisk together the milk, sugar, and eggs, then pour over the bread mixture. Stir well and let soak for about 10 minutes until the bread absorbs the liquid.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil or lard in a tall saucepan over medium-high heat.
  3. Form dumplings using 2 tablespoons of the mixture, roll each in the crumbs, and fry in the hot fat for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Sprinkle the fried dumplings with sugar and serve.
