Ingredients

  • 500 g schnitzel, halved or fillet in slices
  • 2 large onions, sliced or strips
  • 200 g ham or smoked meat
  • 200 g cheese, Emmentaler, Appenzeller or similar in slices
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 100 g cheese, rated, if possible the same as the slices
  • salt and pepper
  • Paprika powder

Instructions

  1. Lightly season the schnitzel slices with salt, pepper, and paprika powder.
  2. Alternately layer the schnitzel slices, onion slices, ham, and cheese slices in a narrow casserole dish.
  3. Pour the whipped cream evenly over the layered ingredients.
  4. Sprinkle the grated cheese over the top.
  5. Bake in the oven at 160°C (320°F) for 45 to 60 minutes, until the meat is cooked through.
  6. After baking, optionally drain the cooking liquid and thicken it as a sauce, or serve with the cooking liquid as is.
