Butternut Squash Slices Wrapped in Prosciutto

Plain pumpkin and thin strips of prosciutto turn into a gourmet snack when wrapped in ham and baked in the oven. The slices are pre-greased with a mixture of maple syrup and olive oil to give them a delicious gloss during baking. Sprinkle the finished snack with balsamic sauce or vinegar and sprinkle with fresh basil. You will be delighted with the unusual combination of sweet, spicy, and tart flavors in one piece.

Ingredients

  • 16 slices 6×1.5 cm peeled butternut squash (1 medium squash)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 8 prosciutto slices, halved (approx. 220 g) Balsamic vinegar or balsamic sauce, to drizzle
  • Torn basil leaves, for serving

Directions

  1. Place the wire rack in the upper third of the oven and preheat the oven to 220 ° C.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the squash with olive oil, maple syrup, 0.5 teaspoon. salt and a little ground black pepper. Wrap a strip of prosciutto over each pumpkin slice and place it on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake until the prosciutto is soft and the pumpkin softens for about 15 minutes. Turn the slices over and continue baking until the prosciutto is browned and the pumpkin is tender another 7-14 minutes. Transfer to a serving dish.
  4. Sprinkle the pumpkin with balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with basil. Serve warm or at room temperature.
