Chapati

Indian bread cakes. Very simple, wholemeal wheat flour. This chapati recipe is made with olive oil.

Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour (wholemeal) wheat – 2 cups
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Water – 0.5 cups
  • Salt – 0.5 teaspoon
  • Fresh cheese (soft) for serving (optional)

Directions

  1. Add salt to flour. Pour in water. Add oil. Mix. Substitute the dough.
  2. Roll into balls the size of a walnut. Roll each ball very thinly into a cake.
  3. Heat a frying pan with a thick bottom. Put the tortillas in a dry frying pan and fry the chapatis on both sides.
  4. When the chapatis are fried on both sides, press on each with a spatula and immediately release – this will swell the cake.
  5. Serve chapatis with soft, fresh cheese.
