Ingredients

  • 1 kg Swiss chard
  • 600 g potato (s) (peeled, quartered)
  • 250 g onion (s), (chopped)
  • 3 clove (s) garlic, (chopped)
  • 50 g bacon, fat (diced)
  • 0.5 liter ½ vegetable stock
  • Salt and pepper, black
  • 4 sausages (Bockwurst or Mettwurst)
  • Nutmeg, smoked salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the stalks from the chard, remove the central rib if necessary.
  2. Cut the chard into fine strips, wash thoroughly and drain.
  3. Leave the bacon in a large saucepan. Fry the onions and garlic until golden.
  4. Add the potatoes and cover with the vegetable stock. Cook for 15 minutes in a closed saucepan over medium heat.
  5. Add the chard and cook for another 10 minutes over a moderate heat.
  6. Then mash everything with a potato masher.
  7. Season the stew with salt, pepper, some freshly grated nutmeg and smoked salt to taste.
  8. Cut the sausages into slices and heat them in the hot stew.
