Herring Spread with Beetroot and Cream Cheese

The familiar and beloved combination of salted herring and boiled beets is perfectly demonstrated in this recipe. A sandwich paste or spread that combines salty herring, sweetish beets and delicate melted cheese will make a slice of white or gray bread incredibly tasty.

Ingredients

  • Herring (fillet) – 150 g
  • Beets – 1 pc. (150 g)
  • Processed cheese – 1 pc. (90 g)
  • Butter (soft) – 50 g
  • Fresh parsley – 1 sprig
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare all ingredients. Remove the butter from the refrigerator beforehand to soften.
  2. Cover the beets in a saucepan or stewpan with water. Boil the beets until tender, about 1 hour. Check the readiness of the beets with a fork. When pierced, the fork should slide easily into the vegetable. Remove the finished beets from the broth and cool.
  3. Coarsely chop the herring fillet and melted cheese.
  4. Peel the beets and grate on a coarse grater.
  5. Combine cheese, herring, beetroot and soft butter in a blender bowl. Add salt and black pepper.
  6. Grind the ingredients with a blender. The mass should become pasty.
  7. Transfer the herring spread with beets and melted cheese to a lidded jar and refrigerate for 30 minutes. The appetizer is ready!
  8. This spread goes well with both white and gray bread. If you dry the bread a little in a toaster, put a spread on top and garnish with fresh herbs, you get an exquisite appetizer for a buffet table!
