Lentils with Spinach

Lentils with spinach and spices are an Indian dish. Served as a side dish for poultry or meat. Lentil dishes are prepared very quickly and easily.

Ingredients

  • Orange lentils – 1.5 cups
  • Spinach (fresh or frozen) – 200 g
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Paprika – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cinnamon – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Garam masala – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Asafoetida – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste
  • Water – 2.5 cups

Directions

  1. Mix spices (except salt and pepper) in a bowl.
  2. Rinse the lentils, let the water drain.
  3. Heat olive oil in a small but deep saucepan (about 1.5-2 liters), add spices. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 minute.
  4. Pour lentils into a saucepan, mix well. Cook for 1 minute.
  5. Then pour the lentils with water, salt, and pepper, bring to a boil. Cook, covered for about 10 minutes, and chop the spinach.
  6. Place spinach in lentils, stir. Cover with a lid, remove the pot from the stove and let sit for 5 minutes.
  7. You can serve lentils to the table.
