Ingredients

  • 12 fish fillet (s) (matjes)
  • 0.25 liter ¼ cream
  • 2 cups yogurt, 10% fat
  • 2 lemon (s)
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 10 juniper berries
  • 6 clove (s)
  • 300 g onion (s)
  • 400 g apples, sour
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Soak herring fillets for an hour.
  2. Squeeze the lemons and mix the juice with the yogurt, cream, sugar, pepper and salt. Add juniper berries, cloves and bay leaves.
  3. Cut the onions into fine rings, cut the apples into eighths, remove the core and cut into thin slices. Mix the onions and apples into the sauce.
  4. Drain the matjes fillets and pour the sauce over the fish fillets.
  5. Cover and leave to steep in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
  6. Small jacket potatoes also taste good.
