Retesh (Hungarian Roll with Walnuts)

Rethesh – Hungarian roll with jam and walnuts. Prepared with simple and affordable ingredients, so perfect for “Guests on the doorstep” occasions!

Ingredients

For the dough:

  • Flour – 150 g
  • Water – 50 ml
  • Egg – 1 pc.
  • Vegetable oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt – 1 pinch
  • Yolk (for coating the roll) – 1 pc.

For filling:

  • Walnuts – 50 g
  • Sugar – 4 tablespoons
  • Currant jam – 5 tablespoon.

Directions

  1. We will prepare all the products for the Hungarian roll with jam and nuts. You can take any jam, the main thing is that it is not very liquid.
  2. Prepare the dough. To do this, mix flour and salt in a bowl.
  3. Add water to a bowl, beat in an egg, pour in water and vegetable oil.
  4. Knead the dough. Let the dough stand for about 20 minutes, covering it with a kitchen towel.
  5. Roll out the dough in a thin layer into a rectangle. (I do this right away on a baking sheet covered with baking paper.)
  6. Lubricate the top of the dough with jam.
  7. Chop the walnuts with a knife, not very finely.
  8. Combine the chopped nuts and sugar in a bowl.
  9. We spread the nuts with sugar in an even layer over the jam and roll the dough with the filling into a roll.
  10. Lubricate the top of the roll with egg yolk using a silicone brush. We send a baking sheet with a roll in preheated to 180 degrees for 25-30 minutes.
  11. We take the finished roll out of the oven, let it cool for 5-7 minutes, then cut it into portions.
  12. Hungarian Retesh roll is good both hot and cold. Have a nice tea!
