Cabbage Rolls with Fish

Cabbage rolls with fish – a dish, although not entirely familiar, believe me, very tasty, aromatic and tender. Armed with time, skill, and this recipe, you will cook delicious stuffed cabbage rolls that will surprise and delight the whole family.

Cook: 1 hour 20 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • Young white cabbage – 1.5 kg
  • Fish fillet – 350 g
  • Rice – 120 g
  • Bulb onions – 1 pc.
  • Fresh dill – 3-5 branches + for serving
  • Vegetable oil – 3-4 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper – to taste

    For the sauce:

  • Butter – 40 g
  • Wheat flour – 20 g
  • Ketchup or tomato paste – 30 g
  • Water – 200 ml
  • Sour cream – 200 ml

Directions

  1. We put a pot of water on heating.
  2. We wash the rice thoroughly, fill it with cold water, and cook for 4-5 minutes. We discard the rice in a colander.
  3. We very carefully remove the leaves from the cabbage so as not to tear them. If your leaves are still breaking, cut the stalk and boil the cabbage in water for a few minutes, then remove the leaves.
  4. Put the cabbage leaves in boiling water and cook for 3-5 minutes to make them elastic.
  5. Cut rough parts from each cabbage leaf with a knife.
  6. We wash the fish, pat it with a towel, and cut it into small pieces.
  7. Peel the onion and cut it into cubes.
  8. In a frying pan in vegetable oil (2 tablespoons) fry the onion for 3-4 minutes. We transfer the fried onions to another dish.
  9. Fry the fish in the same pan for 3-5 minutes.
  10. Chop the dill.
  11. Return the fried onions to the fish, add rice, dill, salt and pepper to taste. We warm up everything together for another minute and turn off the heating.
  12. On the edge of each cabbage leaf, put 2-3 tbsp of filling.
  13. We begin to fold tightly towards the center.
  14. We also fold the free edges towards the center.
  15. We form cabbage rolls with “envelopes”.
  16. In the remaining vegetable oil, fry the cabbage rolls on both sides until lightly browned.
  17. We turn on the oven to heat up to 180 degrees. Let’s start making the sauce. Melt the butter in a saucepan.
  18. Pour in flour. Stirring constantly, fry flour and butter for 1 minute.
  19. Pour in water and, without stopping stirring, break all the lumps and cook the contents for another minute.
  20. Add sour cream, mix.
  21. Put in tomato paste or ketchup, add salt and black pepper. Cook the sauce for 3-4 minutes.
  22. If your skillet is for baking, you can leave the cabbage rolls in it. Or transfer to a baking dish. Pour the cabbage rolls abundantly with the resulting sauce and send them to an oven preheated to 180 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
  23. Let the cabbage rolls with fish cool down a little.
  24. Serve cabbage rolls with fish to the table, decorating with fresh herbs.
