Pasta Casserole with Cheese, Ham and Béchamel Sauce

Very satisfying and delicious pasta casserole with ham and cheese. Camembert cheese with noble white mold enriches the taste of the casserole and, together with the béchamel sauce, makes the dish delicious.

Ingredients

  • Short pasta (e.g. feathers) – 150 g
  • Camembert cheese – 120-180 g
  • Cheddar cheese (or other semi-hard cheese) – 150 g
  • Ham – 100 g
  • Onions – 1 large or 2 medium
  • Bread crumbs – 5 tbsp
  • Butter – 50 g
  • Salt (for cooking pasta) – about 0.5 teaspoon per 1 liter of water

For the béchamel sauce:

  • Butter – 50 g
  • Flour – 50 g
  • Milk – 500 ml
  • Salt – 0.5 teaspoon (to taste)
  • Nutmeg – on the tip of a spoon

Directions

  1. First, prepare the béchamel sauce. Melt the butter in a frying pan or saucepan. Add flour to melted butter. Mix well with a spatula. The fire should be medium so that the butter and flour do not burn.
  2. Add milk little by little and stir constantly. You can use a whisk. You should get a homogeneous mixture without lumps. Add salt and nutmeg.
  3. Bring the béchamel sauce until thick, stirring constantly. Remove the sauce from the heat.
  4. Preparing the ingredients for the casserole. Boil the pasta in a large amount of boiling salted water until al dente (2-3 minutes less than the time indicated on the package of pasta). We turn on the oven to heat up to 180 degrees.
  5. We discard the pasta in a colander and let the water drain. Cut the onion into cubes. Fry the onion in butter (20 g) until golden brown.
  6. Cut the camembert cheese and ham into cubes. Rub the semi-hard cheese (cheddar) on a coarse grater and add to the béchamel sauce.
  7. Mix the sauce with the cheese. Add fried onions, ham, and camembert to the pasta. Add bechamel sauce with cheese there. Mix the resulting mass thoroughly.
  8. Grease the baking dish with butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs (2 tablespoons). We spread the pasta with cheese, ham, and béchamel sauce into the mold.
  9. Sprinkle with the remaining breadcrumbs on top and spread the pieces of the remaining butter.
    We send the form to the oven and cook the pasta casserole for 30-35 minutes, until browning.
  10. We take out the finished pasta casserole from the oven, let it cool for 5-10 minutes, and immediately serve it.
